Freshman Consultation Program

student with microscopeThis comprehensive program ideally begins in the summer before the student enters freshman year in high school.

The purpose of the freshman program is to evaluate the student’s strengths, identify opportunities for freshman year, and track the student’s progress.

The Freshman Consultation Program kicks off with a First Assessment Consultation:

This two-hour meeting begins with a comprehensive review of both the student’s and parent’s completed questionnaires. In this meeting, your advisor works with you to map out your family’s goals, values and priorities, and offers suggestions for next steps in the college application preparation process. Both parent and student must participate in this meeting.

In subsequent meetings, your CAN advisor will also provide the following:

  • An individualized plan for the student that identifies specific academic needs and goals
  • Suggestions for academic course selection and academic goals for freshman year
  • Assistance in targeting choices for extracurricular activities
  • Assistance in targeting choices for community service activities
  • Identify concerns and possible solutions
  • Consultation on advance preparation needed for PSAT

The final meeting of the Freshman Program is a two-hour follow-up session with both student and parent(s), which addresses questions, provide additional support and strategize further.  This can be a face-to-face session, or two separate phone consultations.
