Karey B. Schner, M.A., Ed.M.
Karey Schner is the associate director of college guidance at an all-girls K-12 independent school in New York City. She is an active member of several professional associations, including the National Association of College Admission Counseling (NACAC), both on the national and state levels. She has 14 years of college counseling experience and eight years experience teaching adolescent psychology.
Ms. Schner received her M.A. and Ed.M. degrees from Columbia University Teachers College in New York City. She is a graduate of Ohio University, where she received a B.S. in psychology with a minor in biology.
John CarrollCounselor, Athletics
John Carroll, a 1989 graduate of Northfield Mount Hermon School in Mount Hermon, Massachusetts, has been coaching basketball at NMH since 2001. At NMH, John has coached nearly 60 Division I basketball players and many more college basketball players.
He has led the NMH basketball program to the distinction of being the best combination of academics and basketball in the United States. NMH currently has over 25 players in Division I basketball including Notre Dame, Louisville, U Mass, LaSalle, Pepperdine, Bucknell, Bryant, Howard, American, Lafayette, Gonzaga, George Washington, the University of Vermont, and more.
NMH has sent more players to the Ivy League over the past four years than any other school in the United States. In 2009-2010, NMH will have eight alums suiting up at the Ivies. NMH will have student-athletes playing basketball at the defending Ivy League champs Cornell University, Brown University, three at Dartmouth College and three at Harvard University. NMH has been ranked among the top ten teams in the United States for the past 10 years and top five in the country the past two years, including a trip to the Prep School National Championship game in 2010.
Additionally, John is a member of the Reebok Coaches Group, Boys’ Club of New York Basketball Advisory Board (with ex-NBA players Len Elmore and Oscar Robertson). John has served as head coach of the prep school All-Star Game for the past two years. John also has served as head coach of the Annual Academic All-American game in Los Angeles for the past two years. In the summer of 2010, John was the head coach of the New England team at the World Basketball Festival in Springfield, Massachusetts, sponsored by Nike. Before coming to NMH for a postgraduate year, John graduated from Poly Prep in Brooklyn, New York, and played AAU ball with the Bronx Gauchos. Averaging 27 points per game, he was named MVP of NMH’s 1988-89 squad which finished 17-6.
After NMH, John went on to Assumption College where he finished his career as one of the most prolific three-point scorers in NCAA history. He ended his career as Assumption’s No. 6 all-time scorer with 1,551 points. He still holds most of their three-point records. He finished his college career with 342 three-pointers. John returned to NMH in 2001 after a career on Wall Street. At NMH, John has ten years experience in the admissions office and spent eight years as athletics liaison, working with families of student-athletes in all sports, during the application process to NMH and counseling them to other schools. He also oversaw the student ambassador program. In 2008-09, John served as the Parents’ Council faculty chair for excellence in the NMH athletic program.
